An enterprise Wiki is a public website that allows organizations and institutions to add and share vast amount of data within the entire enterprise. This technology allows organizations to create a large, centralized knowledge respiratory, designed to store and share information at the organizational level. An organization must evaluate and determine if the use of a Wiki or any kind of social network is the most suitable solution for organization. An enterprise Wiki is handy for an organization in the event that the organization requires many users to contribute to a knowledge bank. The technology is not suitable for the case of a one-to-many communication system (Microsoft, 2010).
Implementing a wiki strategy in any organization requires the consideration of a number of aspects. First, the organization needs to evaluate and analyze the purposes that the wiki will serve within the organization. Secondly, the organization must determine the number of users who should have access to the Wiki. The other requirement for implementation would be to determine the mode of regulation of the people who have access to the Wiki (Microsoft, 2010). In addition, it is essential to examine determine the degree of control that management will have towards content of the Wiki. Lastly, management needs to offer training to members who will have access to the site on the basic knowledge of Wiki (Chan, 2008).
